Tributes pour in for a devoted Barrow District and Disability Association volunteer who had an infectious smile

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to 49-year-old Andrew Stevens who died at home in Barrow on Saturday. Mr Stevens was born with the complex birth defect, Spina Bifida and lost both his legs to lymphoedema in 2005. Despite his extensive disabilities, however, he never allowed this to hinder his lifestyle. Mr Stevens was a devoted member of the Barrow District and Disability Association (BDDA) for over 40 years and became involved in the charity at ten-years-old where he met the honorary chief executive, Margaret Burrow. Mrs Burrow described him as always grateful for life despite his many medical challenges. She said: Andy was loved by all who had the good fortune to know him, myself included.
