With the announcement of the Food and Drug Administration advisory panel endorsing the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, Michigan is developing a distribution plan once the vaccine is authorized.
Hospitals and local health departments across Michigan will receive initial doses of Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine in the coming days after it was granted emergency use authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Friday night for individuals 16 years of age and older.Â
Army Gen. Gustave F. Perna, with the federal government s Operation Warp Speed, said Saturday that shipping companies UPS and FedEx will deliver Pfizerâs vaccine to nearly 150 state locations beginning Monday. Another 450 sites will get the vaccine on Tuesday and Wednesday. Federal officials said 2.9 million would be sent around the country within days of an EUA.
The FDA Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee voted 17-4 Thursday to recommend the Pfizer vaccine candidate for EUA based on scientific evidence presented by the Pfizer officials, including Phase 3 efficacy and safety data.Â
As the first wave of coronavirus vaccines are being distributed across the U.S., Michigan officials have determined who in the state will receive the vaccine first and second, third, etc.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Grand Rapids reached an unenviable milestone with the most homicides for a year in its history.
The Dec. 6 shooting death of a 23-year-old man was the city’s 35th homicide, one more than the 34 homicides in 1993. Last year, there were 18 homicides.
All but eight victims of this year’s killings were from gunfire.
Local authorities say they believe the COVID-19 pandemic is playing a role, partly because of a lack of programs and structured activities that are temporarily unavailable.
