Spartanburg man dies from injuries suffered in shooting

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger has identified a 23-year-old man who was shot and killed Monday. Rodderick Lakeem Sparks, of Laconia Circle, was pronounced dead at 10:45 p.m. Monday at Spartanburg Medical Center. The shooting is being investigated as a homicide, Clevenger said. Authorities report the shooting happened on Pinegate Drive, where some students live off campus while attending the University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg County. A forensic exam has been scheduled for Tuesday. The Spartanburg County Sheriff s office and Coroner s Office are investigating. USC Upstate officials said Sparks was a student and they are saddened by his death. The university also said the shooting is an isolated incident and that there is no threat to campus.

Spartanburg teen charged in shooting death arrested in North Carolina

A Spartanburg teenager wanted in connection to the shooting death of a man Thursday afternoon has been arrested. Spartanburg Police Department Maj. Art Littlejohn said in a statement Jolyne Shamor Nijer Rector-Mills, 17, of 224B James Anderson Lane was arrested in Thomasville, North Carolina early Saturday. Members of the Spartanburg County Sheriff s Office coordinated with other law enforcement agencies in North Carolina to find and arrest Rector-Mills, Littlejohn said. Rector-Mills is charged with murder in the shooting death of Terrell Antonio Cohen, 40, of Spartanburg. Cohen was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday by the Spartanburg County Coroner s Office. 

Homicide suspect sought by Spartanburg Police Department

Spartanburg Police Department Maj. Art Littlejohn said in a statement warrants have been issued for Jolyne Shamar Nijer Rector-Mills, 17, of 224B James Anderson Lane, Spartanburg. Mills is charged with murder in the shooting death of Terrell Antonio Cohen, 40, of Spartanburg. Cohen was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday by the Spartanburg County Coroner s Office.  Littlejohn said officers are continuing to search for Rector-Mills.  Officers responded at 2:45 p.m. Thursday to 128 James H. Young St. for a reported shooting. When officers arrived, witnesses told them two people had been shot. One of the shooting victims was sitting inside a white Chevrolet Impala in front of 128 James H. Young St. The other shooting victim later identified as Cohen was lying in the driveway of 108 James H. Young St., according to a statement from Littlejohn.

Terrell Antonio Cohen, 40, of Ammons Road, was pronounced dead on the scene shortly before 3 p .m., according to a statement from the Coroner s Office. A forensics autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
