2020 UN Country Annual Results Report March 2021 Format Foreword by Resident Coordinator The United Nations welcomed the year 2020, as the beginning of the “Decade of Action” on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The purpose is to deepen momentum for accelerating development, leaving poverty behind, taking action to stop the devastating effects of the climate crisis and supporting countries and communities living in conflict to transition to a peaceful world in line with the aspiration of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In 2020, the UN Country Team (UNCT) worked collaboratively with all stakeholders to journey with Malawi through elections and the fight against COVID-19. Malawi transitioned peacefully to a new Government overcoming a year of protests and political impasse since May 2019. The Economist declared Malawi Country of the Year due to her achievements. By Chisomo Phiri Deputy Minister of Local Government Hon. Halima Daudi on Tuesday had a courtesy call with a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative Shigeki Komatsubara. During the meeting, Daudi applauded UNDP for support towards strengthening Local Development Planning System, Hotspot Initiative and critical human rights through Spotlight Initiative saying this will help in developing the local government sectors hence promoting the county’s development. “We are very thankful to UNDP for this support towards strengthening local development planning system. We have all hope that this initiative will help in developing the whole country at large and we beg the UNDP to spread this all over the country,” thanked Daudi.

Liberia: OHCHR and Partners Conduct Awareness-Raising And Local Consultation on Human Rights And National Legislations Relating to Women And Girls Liberia: OHCHR and Partners Conduct Awareness-Raising And Local Consultation on Human Rights And National Legislations Relating to Women And Girls Share Zwedru – The Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights (OHCHR) in partnership with the Law Reform Commission (LRC), Ministry of Justice, the Independent National Human Rights Commission (INCHR) and CSOs have conducted a two-day intensive awareness-raising session and local consultation. The activity targeted over fifty stakeholders and was held in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County on 6-7April. The awareness-raising sessions and consultations focused on strengthening the knowledge and consulting a cross section of stakeholders including senior-level executives from the three districts (Gbarzon, Konobo and Tchien) on the Domestic Violence Act, Inheritance Law, and the Rape Law.  The ac
