POLAND Poland Historical Society members joined in a national effort by cleaning the Ohio historic markers at locations in Poland.
National Historic Marker Day was April 30.
“Poland currently has six historical markers in the village along South Main Street and one at the Little Red Schoolhouse in the township,” Poland Historical Society member Laurie Fox said. “According to the Historical Marker Database, there are more than 138,000 historic markers located across the United States. Many of them have not received any care or maintenance for years.”

STRUTHERS A growing partnership between two communities began with simple conversations.
A community service program out of the Struthers Municipal Court began last year after talks revolving around the soon-to-be drug court.
As a result, a stretch of Poland Township, on U.S. Route 224 between Clingan Road to Struthers Road, as well as the township’s recycling center at 7508 Clingan Road, have been incorporated into the community service program.
“It has been an outstanding partnership,” Judge Dominic Leone said, speaking of the city and township.
“We have a good relationship with Judge Leone” as well as Republic Services, which has a location in Poland Township, Trustee Eric Ungaro said.
