The one-mile walk will begin at 1 p.m. at YWCA of Alliance, 239 E. Market St. Participants will head east on Market, left on South Liberty Avenue over the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Viaduct and return to the YWCA.
Stacie Weimer, executive director of the Alliance YWCA, said the agency decided to host the event to demonstrate it will continue to work on its mission of eliminating racism and empowering women despite the instances of vandalism. We hope to see everyone from all walks of life at this event, she said. It will be a short, one-mile walk, but it s something that we can come together and do as the Alliance community to show that truly hate has no place here.

Someone spray-painted hate messages and symbols that were discovered Tuesday at the Dr. Martin Luther King Dr. Viaduct, the YWCA and a building at 78 S. Webb Ave.
Alliance police are investigating the three instances, which they believe are connected.
Police have made no arrests, but Sgt. Michael Yarian said detectives believe juveniles are to blame. A witness reported seeing two individuals in the area around the time of the incidents, he said.
Disturbing hate message trend in the Alliance area
This is the second time this year hate messages were spray-painted in the Alliance area. The Smith Township home of an Alliance City Schools principal, who is Black, was vandalized with a racial slur in January. Two 15-year-old boys were charged.
