Frustration after more rubbish dumped in Stroud countryside

These pictures were taken at Edge Common and Severnleaze Lane on Sunday afternoon. An SNJ reader who spotted the dumped rubbish said: It was the worst fly tipping I ve seen up at Edge Common and Severnleaze Lane - mile after mile of carpet, then a fridge. The littering comes just days after a large quantity of rubbish was found in a layby in Standish. Discovered on Thursday by a Stroud District Council neighbourhood warden, such was the quantity of rubbish that needed clearing, the warden was forced to call in reinforcements. Stroud District Council’s environment committee chair Simon Pickering said: “Sadly we have to clear around 900 illegal fly tips every year, and where we are able to we will prosecute - fly tipping is illegal and should be reported to Stroud District Council.

Stroud Foodbank receives donation from Midcounties Co-operative

Stroud Foodbank has received £173 from The Midcounties Co-operative’s food bank fund, launched at the outbreak of the pandemic to help ensure all those in need could continue to access essential supplies. The latest donation means that Stroud Foodbank has now received more than £1,380 over the past ten months from the fund, which is in addition to ongoing product donations from the Society and its customers. The Midcounties Co-operative launched its foodbank fund in spring 2020 with an opening contribution of £25,000 and reopened it in December to ensure it could help food banks across its communities in the challenging month of January.
