A brief history of Monroe County | Something to Think About Debbie Kulick For those who were living in Monroe County in 2011, you may well recall the 175th Anniversary of the county date of creation.  The celebration was not as grandiose as that of the Sesquicentennial (150th), but it did have a significant amount of history shared by many local historians. The following county and township history was provided by Jeffrey L. Wright, Esq. The history of Monroe County, which was formed on April 1, 1836 from parts of Pike and Northampton Counties, is rich and certainly helps us understand much of the landscape we have today.

Jamaine Wilkins, 48, of Coolbaugh Township, was arrested and is charged with homicide, police said in a news release. Prince X. Brown, 38, of Coolbaugh, was shot twice and was pronounced dead at a St. Luke’s University Health Network facility in the Stroud Township, police said. Officers were dispatched at 6:25 p.m. to the Swiftwater Luxury Apartments at 1940 Route 611 in Pocono Township where they found Brown, a news release said.

That s near Tobyhanna and Mount Pocono. A case of mistaken identity left four people shot and wounded. Police say three of the victims were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Five people are facing charges in connection to the violence. Tuesday night, police say Randy Halterman, 66, from Stroud Township, shot and killed Adam Schultz, 20, from East Stroudsburg, and shot and wounded a woman after the two were found rummaging around Halterman s home on Paradise Trail near East Stroudsburg.
