A MAN who drove at speed on the hard shoulder of a motorway before running a red light and almost getting struck by a lorry has been spared jail. Tony Ferreira, 39, of Streatham Road, Lambeth, London was caught by police officers after a dramatic chase on the M40 near Bicester on April 3, 2020. At his sentencing yesterday at Oxford Crown Court, prosecution counsel Robert Lyndsey said Ferreira had been driving a Honda moped at 70mph on the hard shoulder of the M40 between junction 8a and 9 at 2.30am. Police officers pulled up behind him and despite several attempts to engage with Ferreira using blue lights and a police stop sign, he failed to stop and drove around the police car.
