Green delivery hub project could help cut pollution in Stratford  | Updated: 17:48, 15 January 2021 Deliveries could be made by electric vehicles WORK has started on a project that could see the introduction of a green, last-mile delivery service in Stratford with the aim of cutting vehicle emissions. If successful, delivery companies would stop at a hub on the outskirts of town to unload and goods would then be taken to homes and businesses by electric vehicles or possibly cargo bikes. Entitled Project Damascus, the initial feasibility research, which is being funded by the government’s Geospatial Commission, will focus on consolidating the deliveries from 16 national companies.

The event, which is organised by Stratford Town Council, regularly attracts thousands of visitors to Stratford in normal times. The celebrations were the focus of huge international attention in 2016 on the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death, with Royals and stars of stage and screen visiting the town. It has been scaled back somewhat since that special year and with the pandemic sweeping the nation last Spring, the decision was quickly taken to move the event online in 2020 with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and RSC taking part.

More action needed to tackle antisocial behaviour at historic sites Published: 06:01, 28 December 2020 Some of Stratford’s most historic sites continue to be affected by antisocial behaviour according to Stratford Town Council, which is seeking advice from the police on new signage. A report before the council’s Community Services Committee this month, outlined continued incidents of dog fouling in Holy Trinity Church Yard and groups congregating to drink alcohol in Stratford’s Garden of Remembrance. The report stated: “The Foreman and his team maintain the churchyard and find it extremely frustrating picking up dog mess before mowing the grass or finding that they have stepped in it when picking up leaves and tending to the churchyard. There is signage in the churchyard that currently reads “please do not exercise your dog in this precinct”, but the Foreman believes this wording is not strong enough and wishes for a more clear message to be portra
