STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. We can smell the fried Oreos, cotton candy and funnel cake already.
The Staten Island Mall Carnival is scheduled to make its return this year, from May 27 to June 13, after a one-year hiatus due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, organizers announced Friday.
For 25 years, the carnival has taken place on the grounds of the Staten Island Mall with rides, attractions, food vendors and a variety of games. This year, the carnival will be open from 5 to 10 p.m. weekdays and from noon to 10 p.m. on weekends. It will be open from noon to 10 p.m. on Memorial Day, May 31.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. “Yes, They’re Open” is a web series highlighting local bars and restaurants that are open for takeout, delivery, pickup or dining during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
Live streams from the featured restaurants are broadcast on the Advance Facebook page every weekday around 3 p.m.
On Thursday, the Advance/SILive.com visited Rita’s Italian Ice at the Staten Island Mall, 2655 Richmond Ave. in New Springville, which is open for pickup from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
