Island’s critics don’t know what they’re missing (letter to the editor)

Recently on SILive.com, I read with some consternation that persons offered the vaccine at sites on Staten Island tweeted out insults indicating their contempt for Staten Island. My first reaction was to dismiss their insults as proof of their bad manners. I will admit to chuckling at a few of the most clever, less insulting memes. But I have to admit that my feelings were hurt, just a little.
I have now spent more than half of my life here and while I am only a “longtime” Staten Islander and not a “native” Staten Islander, I love where I live! I am happy to live in the “Borough of Parks,” where we have over 10,000 acres of parkland and open space. Can we forget about the moniker “The Forgotten Borough,” and just use The Borough of Parks” from now on? It’s so much more positive.
