MERRILLVILLE â A scene like something out of The Blues Brothers played out Saturday night as Illinois State Police, along with Northwest Indiana police officers, pursued a vehicle carjacked near the Eisenhower Expressway in Chicago some 45 miles to Merrillville.
The stolen 2011 silver Hyundai Elantra eventually crashed in the median of U.S. 30, just west of Merrillville Road.
Inside, police found a 15-year-old girl behind the wheel, along with 15-year-old and 13-year-old male passengers â all from Chicago.

About 11.43pm, officers attached to Tweed-Bryon Police District, were called to a carpark on Lawson Street North following reports a teenager had been assaulted and his car stolen. Alvarez, who is the president and owner of Family Auto Rental, said Cesar Montero rented a white YUKON for 12 days, but he didn’t return it.
According to Alvarez, the day the SUV was rented, the vehicle’s GPS showed it went from the airport directly to a warehouse area in Doral, where Miami-Dade Police detectives were able to get surveillance video showing the car parking next to a black Expedition that Alvarez said Montero rented from another company and didn’t return either.
“As we can see from the video, the gentleman got there around 6:30 p.m., half an hour after he rented the vehicle,” Alvarez said.

A Louth criminal with 40 previous convictions has appealed the severity of his sentence for burning out a stolen car, in what a judge has described as mysterious circumstances.
Paul Crosby (25) of Rathmullen Park, Drogheda, Co Louth was under surveillance by the Emergency Response Unit who watched as he and two others jump-started the stolen Volkswagen Polo, drove it to a field and set it on fire.
He pleaded guilty to arson and a judge at Dundalk Circuit Criminal Court sentenced him to five years imprisonment with the final six months suspended.
