HANNIBAL â Douglass Community Services will be modifying the USDA Summer Meals Program because of the continuing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
âThe USDA has granted specific waiver that will allow us to serve more meals while, simultaneously supporting social distancing,â Douglassâ Chief Development Officer Stacey Nicholas said.
This summer, Douglass will distribute meal packs that contain five breakfasts and five lunches. Meal packs will be distributed once a week, on either Tuesday or Thursday depending on the schedule of participants. Under the USDA waivers, parents or guardians can collect meals for each child in their household.
âWe believe that a one-time-a-week bulk distribution with five breakfasts and five lunches will be easier on our families,â Nicholas said.

Irvine, Calif., April 6, 2021 – Alumni and friends of the University of California, Irvine have raised more than $1 billion to support scholarships, groundbreaking research, top-notch patient care and world-class educational facilities, among other initiatives.
The $1 billion total pushes UCI across the halfway mark in its $2 billion philanthropic effort, Brilliant Future: The Campaign for UCI, which has also engaged 44,000 alumni so far – more than half the goal of 75,000 by 2024.
HANNIBALÂ â With COVID-19 exposure continuing to be a risk, the Hannibal Senior Expo has been postponed until Thursday, Aug. 12, at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center in Hannibal.
âWith the COVID positivity rate decreasing and vaccines available, we see the possibility of making the Senior Expo a successful event,â event organizer Stacey Nicholas said. âWe believe that by moving the Senior Expo to the fall, participants will enjoy the event and stay healthy.â
