Summer Thursdays promise produce, pints and performances

STERLING HEIGHTS The city of Sterling Heights is inviting the public to enjoy a variety of tastes and sounds on its upcoming Summer Thursdays, thanks to the return of its farmers market, beer patio and concert stage.
The Dodge Park Farmers Market will run 3-8 p.m. Thursdays between June 3 and Sept. 30 this year in Sterling Heights. The farmers market runs at Dodge Park’s large pavilion, near Dodge Park Road and Utica Road.
Organizers are promising a host of vendors who will sell fruits, vegetables and other foods. In past years, the market has sold food as well as crafts and other items. However, last year, the city opened the market in July, later than normal, following coronavirus shutdowns. And even then, the market limited vendors to ones who sold “essential food.”

SHELBY TOWNSHIP Due to the coronavirus outbreak, many things were put on hold including the new Shelby Township Library’s tentative open date, which has now been pushed back to early 2022.
Early estimates for the completion of the new library were planned to be in the spring of 2021. The township announced the revised schedule in April.
While delays associated with the COVID-19 pandemic have pushed the date of opening back, the township reported that construction is progressing and the project is still within budget.

STERLING HEIGHTS The year 2020 was a game changer for businesses, as well as how work gets done in America.
And it also signified a year of change for Sterling Heights’ Velocity Center, a collaboration center that assists rising companies and bills itself on its website as Macomb County’s “premier technological technology hub.”
Velocity, which is located along 18 Mile Road, between Mound Road and Van Dyke Avenue, is now “powered by” Alchemist Ventures LLC. The company’s founder and CEO, Patrick Wearn, said the company recently won the entrepreneurial services contract for the Velocity Center, adding that it’s good for at least one year.
