Viridian Solar on the 'financial firepower' unlocked by Marley acquisition

By: Reporter, Solar Power Portal As Viridian Solar looks to expand – with the Netherlands a key market for the company – the “financial firepower” it now has access to will help it support even its largest clients in rolling out solar as a standard part of every roof. Speaking to Solar Power Portal after the announcement that Viridian has been acquired by roofing manufacturer Marley, Viridian Solar CEO Stuart Elmes said that it’s “very flattering” that a company with the “reputation and history of Marley wanted to own Viridian”. With further growth of Viridian on the cards, the company is looking specifically at the Netherlands, which Elmes said is a “really great market for roof integrated solar” and a country in which “there’s plenty more scope to build our share of the market”.

Viridian Solar acquired by Marley in 'exciting new chapter' of further growth

It comes after the two first revealed a partnership in 2020 to offer the Marley SolarTile, based on Viridian’s Clearline fusion products. Now, Marley has acquired 100% of the share capital of Viridian, a move which the solar company said provides the foundation for further growth as it prepares for rapid expansion driven both by changes to building regulations and its expansion into international markets. The solar firm already has a strong international presence, having set up a subsidiary in the Netherlands in 2019. Its Clearline fusion roof-integrated solar system has now been installed on roofs across the Benelux union, Ireland - which it expanded into last year - Germany, Austria and Scandinavia, with the company having also expanded into the US last year.

Life-saving charity stepping up Covid measures to protect patients and doctors

A LIFE-SAVING charity is stepping up measures to protect patients from the coronavirus. Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, which has a base in Earls Colne, is taking additional steps to protect patients and crew members from Covid-19 after adopting a decontamination technique. The trust is decontaminating crews and equipment with specially-prepared water which instantly kills 99.99 per cent of bacteria, fungi and viruses. The water is turned in to a ‘fog’ created from electrolysed saline water. The fog is then released inside a tent, into which anything that needs treating is placed. The environmentally-friendly system is said to be non-toxic, non-corrosive and leaves no harmful residues.

How New Building Rules Can Revitalize Residential Solar in England

Tighter rules on the carbon footprint of new-build homes in England could likely trigger a fresh boom for residential solar. New homes will be required to produce 31 percent less carbon dioxide than they do now, according to plans laid out this week, which will require better energy efficiency and being “heat pump ready.” In the vast majority of cases, it is expected that solar will be the most cost-effective way for homebuilders to remain below the carbon threshold. The new rules are expected to pass into law in the spring of 2021, and they will likely begin to be applied to new building plans starting in the spring of 2022. They are the precursor to a much stricter set of regulations, the Future Homes Standard, to be implemented in 2025 and which will cut permitted emissions by 80 percent.
