One of the attractions of this year s Artists Open Studios is the inclusion of artistic workshops, in which people can learn things like printmaking, felting, block printing and working with a product called Powertex, which hardens fabric for use in fibre art.

Artist Pauline Allomes had to cancel all her Open Studios plans last year: this year it s all on again and she has lots of new work or reworked older work.
One was a pencil drawing of the Rangitikei River. I quite liked it, but I decided to do something with it. It s pastel and paint on top of pencil and a little bit of Indian ink. Now it looks very different.
Wood River budget hearing set March 15

WOOD RIVER City council members will hold a public hearing via teleconference at 7 p.m. March 15 on the city’s proposed budget before the regularly scheduled council meeting.
At Monday’s meeting Mayor Cheryl Maguire, on behalf of the council and Wood River citizens in general, thanked firefighter Kris Ayres for his service following his return from overseas deployment. She also thanked StorCo Storage Solutions Wood River for lending their business facility and workers to help coordinate a local food drive in which 1,000 boxes of fresh food was distributed.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has calmed fears that famously vulgar superhero Deadpool might be tamed in his latest film.
Sharing some updates on several Marvel Cinematic Universe projects during the Television Critics Association s winter tour, the 47-year-old revealed Deadpool 3 will indeed be rated R, despite Marvel s parent company Disney rarely releasing content with that rating.
