Mike Carey, an energy lobbyist supported by former President Trump, won the crowded GOP primary race in a special House election in a deep-red Ohio district Tuesday.
The Associated Press called the race shortly after 9 p.m. ET. Carey led the pack with more than 37 percent of the vote, or just shy of 9,300 ballots cast in his name.
State Sen. Bob Peterson, former state Rep. Ron Hood and state Rep. Jeff LaRe rounded out the top four.

Cuomo urged to resign after probe finds he harassed 11 women
NEW YORK (AP) â New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo faced mounting pressure Tuesday to resign, including from President Joe Biden and other onetime Democratic allies, after an investigation found he sexually harassed nearly a dozen women and worked to retaliate against one of his accusers.
âI think he should resign,â Biden told reporters Tuesday, echoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and New York s U.S. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, all Democrats.
The leader of the state Assembly, which has the power to bring impeachment charges, said it was clear Cuomo could no longer remain in office. Speaker Carl Heastie, a Democrat, said he would move to complete an impeachment inquiry as quickly as possible.â

Mike Carey has won the Republican primary for a vacant House seat south of Columbus, vaulting to the top of a crowded special election field with support from former President Donald Trump.
Carey’s win affirms Trump’s ability to influence Republican primaries with endorsements even while out of office during the Biden administration. Trump advisers were eyeing the Ohio primary after Susan Wright, another Republican House candidate backed by the former president, lost her own special election for a district in Texas last week.
