Coryell County voters to decide fate of proposed jail during May 1 election

Coryell County voters to decide fate of proposed jail during May 1 election County officials say it s needed, but residents divided and last updated 2021-04-27 00:09:01-04 CORYELL COUNTY, TX — Voters in Coryell County are divided on the proposal for a new, 250-bed jail. “Appraisals have skyrocketed. Gatesville ISD already has a ten cent rate hike coming this year. We just can’t handle another one,” said Coryell County resident Steve Buckner. Some say the $30.9 million bond is too much for taxpayers. However, officials say the current jail is overcrowded, and the county is losing money housing inmates in other counties.

Audiences Take Live Music for Granted, Says Texas Flood s Tommy Katona

Before long, Katona crossed paths with Steve Buckner. The two are now part of a trio that form the band Texas Flood with Katona handling both guitar and vocals while Buckner, 55, plays bass guitar and Travis Montoya, 33, thrashes the drums. “Texas Flood was born as Voodoo Blue, which was Steve’s band, originally,” says Katona. “He had different bands over the years, but the three of us, we’ve been together for a little over 10 years.” The group performs in concerts and at private parties, sometimes mingling their own music with various covers. Things were thriving, Buckner says, until the COVID-19 pandemic stretched its gnarly fingers across the country.
