Lake Decatur Clean Up Set for Saturday Spurred on by WAND-TV Lifestyle Reporter Steve Nichols, a clean-up of areas along Lake Decatur has been scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday 1/23) at 11am. In a post on Facebook Nichols said; “Low water levels in the lake and river below the dam have revealed a mess. We need to clean this up! Fishing line, lead and plastic can all be toxic and lethal to wildlife. We need volunteers to help pick this stuff up while the water is low before it gets washed down river. Even though we will meet on the road below the dam, we will clean up other areas around the lake such as the William Street bridge, Sportsman’s Park, Grove Road, and the fishing area near the dam in South Shores.

Bed space strained at NGHS as number of COVID-positive

Hospital staff at Northeast Georgia Health System and first responders are struggling to find bed space for patients as today the number of COVID-positive patients hit a new record. “We’re used to having one of three busiest Emergency Departments in the state here in Gainesville, but our current situation is unlike anything we’ve ever seen,” said Dr. Mohak Dave , Chief of Emergency Medicine for NGHS. “We’re treating patients in hallways and waiting rooms every day. Sometimes patients have to spend the night there, because there’s no bed available.” The latest report this morning from the NGHS website shows 340 COVID-positive patients, a new record, are being treated across all Northeast Georgia Medical Center hospitals and long-term care facilities. The next-closest number to that record was 322 COVID-positive patients on December 22, 2020.
