SWINDON Borough Council s top six earners are paid £850,000 a year combined, figures suggest. The latest local authority pay round-up by pressure group the Taxpayers’ Alliance shows there are half a dozen paid officers at Euclid Street who earn more than £100,000 per year. Susie Kemp, the council’s chief executive officer, is paid a salary of £170,000. She does not receive other benefits, including pension contributions. Next in the pay scale come three corporate directors. Director of children’s services David Haley is paid £130,000, which is increased to £157,000 by pension, then comes the corporate director of adult social services Sue Waldron £128,000 bumped up to £155,000. The director of communities and housing – a role filled by Steve Jorden until last year – earns £124,000 with a pension contribution taking that to £151,000.
