How the âbossâ and a favour saved the Sydney icon Sydney pulled off a miracle to keep the New Yearâs Test at the SCG and all it took was one of the most powerful figures in NSW and an unforgotten favour.

Subscriber only Earl Eddings phone rang late on Tuesday morning. It was the NSW Premier on the line. As the fate of the Sydney Test hung in the balance, Gladys Berejiklian personally reinforced to the Chairman of Cricket Australia just how important the saving of the SCG showpiece was to NSW. It s too simplistic to say the phone call tipped the scales in NSW s favour, but on a day of high drama where cricket s decision could have swung either way, the conversation enabled Eddings to walk into a board meeting and tell his directors that the assurances given by NSW officials had the full backing of the boss.

There were exactly 229 days between tweets for Fox Sports’ executive director Steve Crawley, but what he posted on December 23 should be of interest to every A-League fan.
“Can’t wait to hear Brenton Speed – the voice of football call A-League this coming season on Fox Sports,” Crawley wrote.
“He’s the best caller in this country, no one is better.” Share
Crawley is as entitled to his opinion as the rest of us are to ours, and as the current head of Fox Sports, it’s perfectly understandable for him to talk up his own talent.
India leads Australia by 62 after taking lead in 1st test
December 19, 2020 GMT
ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) India took a vital 53-run first-innings lead despite dropping at least four catches Friday on the second day of the first cricket test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval.
Australia captain Tim Paine made an unbeaten 73 off 99 balls before his team got bowled out for 191 on a wicket where 15 wickets fell in a day.
Paine’s side started the day promisingly when it needed only 22 minutes and 4.1 overs to wrap up India’s first innings for 244 after the visitors resumed on 233-6.
But off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took apart the Australian top order to finish with 4-55. And the two pace bowlers Umesh Yadav (3-40) and Jasprit Bumrah (2-52) were rewarded for their immaculate bowling with the pink ball in the day-night test.
