1. MECC family entertainment extravaganza Mackay s traditional New Year s party on the Bluewater Quay has been transformed, with the city to host two events at the MECC and Showgrounds. A free family entertainment extravaganza will be held at the MECC from 6pm to 9pm.

The miserable weather has put a dampener on one of Mackayâs biggest New Yearâs Eve celebration.
Mackay Show Association manager Steve Gavioli said the showgroundâs end of year festivities were cancelled because of the weather.
âThe rain has caused a quite a problem for us,â Mr Gavioli said.
Mr Gavioli said the persistent rains meant the grounds were too muddy for visitors to enjoy the market stalls, food vendors, and entertainment that had been planned for Thursday night.
âIt wouldnât be very positive to spend that time in the mud,â he said.
