We at Interfaith Community Services mourn the killing of Mr. Steve Olson, the local man who was shot six times by an Escondido police officer on April 21. He was a client of Interfaith Community Services. He was also a son, a brother, an uncle and a veteran who served our country. Friday morning, Interfaith held a small, private memorial service for Steve’s family and the homeless community at our Escondido headquarters, where he used to receive services. It is with the support and approval of his family that we share details of how we tried to help him overcome mental illness, substance use and homelessness.
