Warren Scott STEUBENVILLE Those among the new slate of officers for the Jefferson County Republican Party hope to draw voters of diverse backgrounds and cultures by stressing the common goals and values they share. “This area still needs jobs. And like a lot of areas, we have a drug problem,” said the Rev. Nate Freeman, who said he and other leaders of the Jefferson County GOP want to find solutions to such problems while supporting values, including the sanctity of life and the importance of family, held by many Ohio Valley residents.

Col. Yvonne L. Mays STEUBENVILLE Col. Yvonne L. Mays, a native of Steubenville, serves as director of staff, New Jersey Air National Guard in Lakehurst, N.J., a position she has held since December 2017. The Steubenville High School graduate and daughter of Freddie and Frankie Allen of Steubenville is the principal adviser to the adjutant general of the state of New Jersey on all matters concerning the 108th Air Refueling Wing, the 177th Fighter Wing, subordinate units and civilian matters pertaining to the New Jersey National Guard. She is directly responsible for the New Jersey Air National Guards’ efficient and prompt delivery of support services to the two wings. Mays is the principal assistant to TAG, NJANG/CC and joint staff regarding execution of ANG and AF policies and programs. She formulates and coordinates policy affecting more than 2,200 Airmen and their families.

Littlejohn to be guest speaker at special Quinn church service STEUBENVILLE Quinn Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church, 515 N. Fifth St., will wrap up its observance of Black History Month on Sunday with Jonathan Littlejohn as the finale in a series of special speakers for the church’s 11 a.m. Livestream Online or Zoom service. A graduate of Steubenville High School, Littlejohn is the son of Vickie Littlejohn, a retired educator, and Edward Sr., a real estate developer. As Jonathan learned the business ethics of his family, he always wanted to become a businessman and open his own business, a church committee member explained.

FFA students take part in rabbit show E-T staff report Austin Browder represented Stephenville FFA well with his Mini Rex (Hotshot). Justin Browder was 8th in a large class with his Mini Rex (Jupiter). Maggie McGregor was third in a tough class with her Satin (Pepper). Meg McGregor was 8th with her Netherland Dwarf (Bubba) and second with her French Lop (Missy). Feb 15, 2021 Daryl V. “Sid” Toothman, 85, of Steubenville, OH, passed away Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Sid was born Oct. 12, 1935, in Farmington, WV, son of the late Daryl W. and Phyllis (Atkinson) Toothman. Sid worked in the Tin Mill Electrical Shop at Weirton Steel and retired with 40 years of service. He was a graduate of Steubenville High School and he loved Big Red Football and was a long-time season ticket holder. His memberships included the Bell Chapel UMC, the Men’s Club of the Church and the Big Red Boosters. Sid was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, Tenth Div. and he loved spending time at Leesville Lake.
