Downtown San Antonio s new unnamed underground cocktail bar opens beneath Playland pizzeria

The downtown pizzeria Playland has opened its stylish basement bar space to the public.Christopher Perez /@txtroublemaker
Ever since the downtown pizzeria Playland opened in the Maverick Building on East Houston Street in 2018, the space beneath it has remained a mystery, an enigmatic underground hideaway customers saw on their way down to the restrooms.
The mystery has lifted, and now the space below Playland is a stylish cocktail lounge open to the public from 6 p.m. to midnight Thursday through Saturday. The enigma endures, however, as the bar doesn’t have a name of its own, Playland owner Stefan Bowers said.
