Action News Now spoke with a volunteer firefighter who has been a part of the Oroville community for many years, he says if Cal Fire does take over fire protection services, his future is uncertain. It s a concern to me because I love to serve my community, said Pastor Stephen Terry, who is a volunteer firefighter in the city.

The Oroville City Council held a special meeting Thursday morning to discuss the possibility of Cal Fire taking over fire protection services in the city. Over a dozen community members held a protest outside of the meeting.

OROVILLE, Calif. - Around a dozen people in Oroville gathered for a protest outside of the city chambers on Thursday morning as the city council discussed the possibility of Cal Fire taking over the local fire department.
Community members say one concern they have is the potential financial impacts. Right now, the city of Oroville is paying approximately $3.5 million on fire services each year. The new contract with Cal Fire would cost around $5.2 million if it moves forward.

OROVILLE, Calif. - One local recue mission is on a mission to feed those who need it the most this Christmas.
Every year the Oroville rescue mission hosts a big Christmas dinner for families in need here in the community but this year with the pandemic, things looked a little different. Everything is to-go, nobody is coming in to the food line, we have volunteers that will take the food to them and they will take the food to-go, said Pastor, Stephen Terry, who is also the C.E.O. of The Oroville Rescue Mission.
