The buyer of this four-bedroom house in Richmond, south west London, will find that the property comes with a strange but flattering perk – misdirected fan mail.
The list of absent addressees is a long one. During the Eighties, the house was owned by David White Associates, a celebrity agent whose clients included the comedian Stanley Baxter. The long-standing residents of Ormond Road can recount wild soirees.
But the property’s most famous party guest graced the house with his presence a little earlier. The British diplomat and Ambassador to Egypt Sir Harold Beeley owned the house in the Sixties and entertained the likes of actor Omar Sharif.

FROM the moment it first burst on to the stage in Glasgow, the Five Past Eight Show was something special. Sixty-six years ago this week, a handful of stars lit up the Alhambra Theatre in what was to become a city institution. The Evening Times review was suitably glowing the next day, on May 27, 1955. Queues for the Five Past Eight Show “Having seen most of the brightest and best shows at the Alhambra since it first opened its doors I never have left the theatre more satisfied than last night, when Five Past Eight had a sky’s-the-limit first performance,” enthused the reviewer.
