Comment on Garden Route Dam development

Image: Aurecon / SES Update GEORGE NEWS - The public is invited to comment on the draft scoping report in the rezoning application for a proposed university precinct development at the Garden Route Dam. The cut-off date for written comments is 17 May. George Municipality is in the process of rezoning the land (a portion of the remainder of Erf 464) to allow for a commercial waterfront, residential and tertiary educational development. The application pertains to 118,5 hectares of which large parts do not fall within the urban edge, but according to the draft scoping report, the municipality is amending the urban edge and the newly proposed urban edge includes the majority of the development site.

Photo: Eugene Gunning Gallery Update Video GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - According to a statement by George Municipality, the potential city-wide water crisis is being managed following the recommissioning of an old raw water pipeline to the Water Treatment Works. Please continue to use water sparingly as the old raw water pipes are smaller and cannot handle full capacity and there is still no drinking water supply to reservoirs east of the city. Water trucks are roaming in Thembalethu Zones 1-8 where reservoirs have run dry. Zone 9 still has water for now but will be monitored and supplied if required. Thank you to Mossel Bay Municipality for continued assistance with a large water truck to help supply to these areas.
