School and nursery for housing estate | Braintree and Witham Times

PLANS have been unveiled for a new 210-place school as well as a nursery on a former hospital site near a new housing estate. If agreed, Essex County Council’s new St Luke’s School would be built on the former Runwell Hospital site in St Luke’s Way. County Hall is planning the primary school and 56-place nursery for families in the new 575-home St Luke’s Park development. Initial plans show two outdoor play areas for the nursery, sport pitches for the school as well as a library and special educational needs centre within the school. Community leaders welcomed the plan, but said a medical facility should also be considered for the site.

Petition to close Park Street at Queen s Park Primary School

Labour councillor Nick Childs said: “Dangerous driving and parking outside the school has become an increasing issue. “With rising stress levels and flaring tempers, we have seen staff being abused when trying to manage the situation and – most scarily of all – the lives of our children being put at risk. “This can’t continue.” Councillor Childs has started a petition calling for Park Street to be closed outside Queen’s Park Primary School. He said: “In September Brighton and Hove City Council introduced a successful road closure scheme across 14 schools, including neighbouring St Luke’s School, in which roads adjacent to the school entrance are closed during drop off and pick up times.
