The Scranton Area Community Foundation wants potential charitable givers in Northeast Pennsylvania to know that just because they havenât seen a year-end appeal from an area nonprofit organization, it doesnât mean the need has been met.
At a time of year when nonprofits often rely on the generosity of the community to fill fundraising gaps, the foundation said Thursday many area organizations are confronting an unexpected challenge: mail delays.
Some organizations that mailed their annual appeal in early December are aware that donors did not receive it yet, the foundation said. Others that mailed it in November and early December say they are experiencing significant delays in gifts being returned.

Like most restaurants, Abeâs Kosher Delicatessen in Scranton took a hit when it had to shut down its dining room and shift to takeout and deliveries at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
