A Santa Maria Valley attorney faces 13 felony criminal charges in Santa Barbara County Superior Court related to allegations that she embezzled funds and committed other white-collar crimes while handling an elderly client’s trust.
Debbie Lee Morawski, 47, of Orcutt has been charged with three counts of embezzlement, one count of theft from an elder or dependent adult, one count of preparing false documentary evidence and eight counts of money laundering.
The criminal complaint also lists several special allegations, or sentencing enhancements, including for aggravated white-collar crime with a loss greater than $500,000.

Cottage Health has opened up another urgent care location.
The latest Cottage Urgent Care Center is located at 1606 E. Clark Avenue in Orcutt and will be open year-round from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Cottage says the goal is to provide complete care to patients within 45 minutes.
Another Cottage Urgent Care location is located in Santa Maria on North Broadway, and ones recently opened up in San Luis Obispo and Goleta as well.
Cottage Health says another location on Skyway Drive in Santa Maria will be opening soon.

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. â Johns Creek is making plans for improvements along one of the most traveled arteries in the city, Medlock Bridge Road.
Although traffic counts vary along the corridor, about 50,000 vehicles travel the road daily. Because the corridor is prone to traffic congestion, especially at the intersections, it was identified as a TSPLOST Tier 1 project with an improvement budget of $10 million.
Five intersections have been identified for improvement, at Abbotts Bridge Road / Ga. 120; at Bell Road; at Skyway Drive; at McGinnis Ferry Road; and at Johns Creek Parkway.
The improvements, which are overall estimated at around $8.6 million, are designed to add capacity to the intersections through restriping or lane additions.
City of Santa Maria hosting free youth pickleball clinics

The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department is offering free youth pickleball clinics on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Kids 7 to 13 years old will play at the new pickleball courts located at the Hagerman Sports Complex off Skyway Drive in Santa Maria.
The Santa Maria Pickleball Club is helping organize these free clinics.
Organizers say pickleball is an activity for people of all ages that combines the structure of tennis with the scoring rules of table tennis.
The program will follow CDC guidelines. Participants will need to wear a face covering and maintain social distancing.
