Shane Duffy. Brighton to Celtic, 2020, loan
Duffy had three aims when he joined Celtic on loan: regular first team games, Champions League football, and trophies. After a bright start – Duffy scored in his first two games, both wins – it’s been an utter disaster and of the targets he had, all three have fallen short.
Duffy was dropped, Celtic were (twice) knocked out of Europe, while Celtic and Duffy can only watch as Rangers march towards the title. A rump of the Parkhead support were never convinced, also the pressure of pundits also on his back (while ex-Celtic player Kris Commons said he was “rank rotten from the minute he walked through the door”).
It’s a big one for the Chairboys tonight as we welcome Birmingham City to Adams Park. The team will be looking to bounce back after Saturday’s heavy defeat away to Brentford and put an all important three points on the board.
Ahead of tonight’s clash, Alicia Povey spoke to Birmingham City fan Joe Lombardi (@BrummieJoeHD) to see what we can expect this time round:
Birmingham currently sit 20th in the table, with 27 points from 26 games. What’s your recent form been like going into Tuesday’s game?
We have a much better away record than our home. That’s what my hopes are clinging on to! We’ve lost nine times at home this season and only twice away, however it’s still not been much of a fairytale away from home with just four wins. After our draw against Coventry last week, we’ll be eager to grab the three points but there’s a big question over whether this pressure will get the better of us.
London (AFP) – Wayne Rooney admitted Derby deserved a 1-0 defeat to Championship relegation rivals Rotherham in his first match in permanent charge at Pride Park.
Jamie Lindsay fired home four minutes from time as the Millers’ moved above Derby, who slip to second bottom of the table.
It was far from an ideal start to his reign for the former Manchester United and England captain, who gave an honest assessment of side’s under-whelming performance.
“Today Rotherham outfought us,” said Rooney.
“Our quality on the ball and our concentration levels weren’t where they should be.
“That’s the disappointing thing and, if I’m being honest, I don’t think we deserved anything from this game.”
