Since the insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6, numerous corporations and trade groups have condemned the violence and have taken steps to hold accountable those tied to what will forever be a stain on our democracy.
A large number of corporate PACs are also suspending, pausing, and reviewing contributions to those in Congress who voted against certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. But what about the American Legislative Exchange Council’s(ALEC) funders?
ALEC, an ostensibly nonpartisan pay-to-play operation where legislators and corporate lobbyists meet behind closed doors to adopt model legislation on a broad range of public policy issues, embraced Trump early on, and its leaders and members worked hard to promote his voter fraud lies in order to keep him office.

Kim Ward didn’t set out to be a politician. She chose to be a respiratory therapist.
But when she crossed paths with a young intern-turned AIDS activist, it sparked an interest in government and how she could play a role in it.
That was a lesson along with a few others, including ones instilled in her by her 82-year-old mother Joanna Renko, that helped Ward secure her place in Pennsylvania history.

HARRISBURG Charging tolls to help pay for selected interstate highway bridge projects under Pennsylvania’s Public-Private Partnership Transportation Program was the subject of a Senate Transportation Committee public hearing Monday.
The P3 Board voted in November to give the green light to planning for major bridge projects that rely on user fees or tolls for revenue. Major bridges are those of significance based on physical size, location and cost to replace or rehabilitate.
PennDOT is evaluating five to 10 bridge projects on interstates across the state as potential candidates for tolling, Transportation Secretary Yassmin Gramian said. She indicated the list could be available by mid-February.

FAIRHOPE – Proposed changes in the South Beach bluff that had drawn complaints from some residents are being dropped from the draft of the Fairhope Working Waterfront plan, designers and city officials said.
A sand beach south of the Fairhope Pier has also been dropped from the proposal, Scott Hutchinson of Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood an engineer working on the project, said.
“The big items are no beach and no bluff work,” he told City Council members on Jan. 11.
Council members and Mayor Sherry Sullivan will consider the new draft of the plan and take action on the proposal at an upcoming meeting, officials said.
