Naperville residents invited to Chat with the Chief
Updated 5/18/2021 3:46 PM
The Naperville Police Department is holding a meet-and-greet next week with Chief Robert Marshall and members of his senior staff.
The Chat with the Chief event is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. May 25 in the parking lot of Scott Elementary School, 500 Warwick Drive, according to a news release. The gathering will be moved into the school s gymnasium in the event of inclement weather.
Residents are encouraged to stop by any time during the two-hour window for an informal conversation with police leaders in a relaxed atmosphere. The event is typically hosted multiple times a year but has been on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the news release says.
The Illinois Schools Report Card finds that 84.8 percent of teachers stay at Scott Elementary School year to year, according to their 2020 three-year average.
The Illinois State Board of Education records data concerning faculty salary, retention and attendance because maintaining a stable faculty makes for a better environment for teachers and students, furthering student success, according to the report.
Naperville CUSD 203 full-time faculty members number 1,099, with a student-teacher ratio of 18-to-1. There are 460 students enrolled at the elementary school.
The average salary for teachers within the district is $82,642, ranking it 64th out of 1096 districts in the state for pay. About 86.8 percent of teachers at the elementary school and 86.8 percent of those in the district were absent 10 days or fewer in 2020, compared to 86.6 percent of teachers in the state.

“Everywhere you looked, there was devastation.”
So recalled Dr. T.L. Lewis, the longtime pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Birmingham’s Pratt City community.
“From one end of Pratt City to the other, lives were lost, homes and businesses were destroyed. Our church was leveled to the foundation.”
But in the immediate aftermath of the deadly tornado that struck early on the evening of April 27, 2011, the destruction of his church was secondary to meeting human needs, Lewis said.
“Some people lost everything they had, including their clothes. Starting that night, we knew we had to get busy getting people what they needed just to survive.”
