Carthage captures state title in 70-14 win over Gilmer Carthage vs Gilmer 6PM By Caleb Beames | December 18, 2020 at 3:21 PM CST - Updated December 18 at 6:34 PM ARLINGTON, Texas (KLTV) - The Carthage Bulldogs completed their perfect season with a 70-14 win over Gilmer. With the win, Carthage won a state championship for the second-straight year and their eighth state title in the past 13 years. The Gilmer Buckeyes came out looking to hit Carthage early and hold the momentum. They got two quick scores from Rohan Fullelen to go up 14-0. Carthage answered back with Kai Horton doing a backwards pass to Mason Courtney who proceeded to pass it back to Horton who did the rest and got the first Carthage touchdown. Carthage never looked back and would win 70-14. This was the Bulldogs eighth state title in 13 seasons with head coach Scott Surratt. He has the most of any coach at the 11-man level with one school.

It should be no surprise that Gilmer and Carthage are the last two teams standing in 4A DII competition. The Buckeyes and Bulldogs will play for the 4A DII state title game Friday at noon inside AT&T Stadium. Gilmer has three state titles and are playing in their seventh state title game. Carthage is looking for a near record eighth state title in their ninth appearance.

Carthage Head Coach Scott Surratt is looking for his eighth state title. Lindale is looking for their first state title. It would be a very happy moment for former Fruitvale head coach and current Lindale Superintendent Stann Surratt.
