JACKSON, Tenn. The City of Jackson has been selected for a grant to improve crosswalks at a busy intersection.
The city says it will receive the Multimodal Access Grant for both crosswalks and crossing signals at North Parkway and North Highland Avenue.
The money will also be used to bring the curb ramp to ADA standards and add 1,300-feet of new sidewalk, according to the city.
“One of the first steps to creating better roads is to provide safer sidewalks and crosswalks for our pedestrians,” said Mayor Scott Conger, “This area has needed attention for a long time, and I’m glad we are able to provide our community with safe pedestrian access.”
80 Jackson streets become focus of first half of massive repaving initiative

That portion, around $4 million, would be added to the already existing paving fund and allow Conger and city officials to reevaluate the state of city roads based on a road rating survey that was taken in 2019.
Approximately 80 streets have been honed in on for the first half of the project.
Thomas Wolfe, Jackson city engineer, spoke with The Jackson Sun about the current state of cities roads and the plans for repaving.
“They’re in all different conditions,” Wolfe said, regarding the conditions of the roads. “Back in 2019, the city hired someone to come through and use a ‘paser system’ to score our roads from one to 10. And that was organized on a list. It starts with one ones being the worst, tens not needing any work.”
