LAWYERS for Liberty today called for charges against social activist Heidy Quah dropped, describing the government’s action as “utterly nonsensical”.
Quah, the founder of the non-governmental organisation, Refuge for the Refugees, was charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court yesterday with improper use of network facilities by initiating the transmission of offensive communications on refugees in the country through her Facebook.
Zaid Malek, the coordinator for LFL, in a statement said if the prosecution against Quah was not withdrawn, “then the government has decided that it rather cover up than admit their mistakes and improve on their shortcomings”.
