Zulu Royal household accepts budget cut while preparing for upcoming festivities

Durban - The Zulu Royal household has accepted the budget cut by the office of KwaZulu-Natal Premier while it is preparing a handful of festivities.
Their budget was slashed by R5 million. Last year, the family received R71 million for its expenses.
Premier Sihle Zikalala delivered KZN’s budget speech on Friday, a week after the new Zulu monarch, King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, was announced.
The King, who sent a delegation to pay lobola to his long-time sweetheart, Ntokozo Mayisela, to Newcastle, is expected to tie the knot, in the coming weeks, ahead of his coronation.

Talk of “modernity”, generally, is frowned upon by those who view Western systems of governance as unsuitable and undesirable in African settings where traditional leadership is still revered.
But the tumultuous state of affairs currently pervasive in the Zulu Royal Family following the demise of the king and queen within weeks has, perhaps inadvertently, created an opportunity to overhaul and refine those traditional ways of doing things.
From when King Goodwill Zwelithini drew his last breath, it became clear that confusion and uncertainty would prevail as his grieving subjects and family tried to reconcile Zulu customs and traditions, with the realities of being a monarchy in a country that respects a Bill of Rights under a most modern Constitution.

Durban - Activities for the coronation of new AmaZulu King Misuzulu Zulu KaZwelithiniâs will be footed using the R66.074 million budget allocated to the Zulu Royal Household.
This was announced by KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala.
Although a date for the much-awaited coronation of the new king is yet to be announced, Zikalala announced during the tabling of his R802.2 million Premierâs Office Budget Vote for 2021 on Friday.
The R66.074 million is some R5 million less than the R71 million that the Office of the Premier had granted to the Zulu Royal Household last year.

Zikalala delivered his budget speech in the provincial legislature on Friday.
He told legislature that the money will assist the coronation ceremony of the newly nominated Zulu King. For this year, we have allocated the amount of sixty-six million and seventy-four thousand rands to the Zulu Royal household. These programmes seek to ensure that we provide support to the hosting of annual traditional and cultural events. We also coordinate the King s coronation day, the prayers that are held at the royal house, and we will also support other cultural activities.
