Messages of condolences are pouring in following the death of the regent of the AmaZulu nation – Queen Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu. The Queen died on Thursday evening at the age of 65. The news of her passing has shocked many. As regent, she was supposed to reign until a successor to her late husband is chosen and installed. Never before in the history of the AmaZulu has a regent passed away before a new king is installed.

Prince Lethukuthula Zulu murder case postponed

The Zulu Royal family have again asked for space to mourn the death of King Goodwill Zwelithini, saying that conjecture from experts and academics was disrespectful. Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi said on Tuesday that while the royal household has kept the public informed, . every step of the way on matters related to the king s succession , there was still speculation in the media. Speculation of King Zwelithini’s successor can ‘create conflict’ – Buthelezi Siyanda Ndlovu The issue of succession remains a hot topic among academic and cultural experts. Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, Prime Minister to the Zulu Royal family, has warned that speculation about late King Goodwill Zwelithini Ka Bhekuzulu’s successor have the potential to create conflict in the royal family. Zwelithini died aged 72 due to Covid-19 complications after weeks of hospitalisation at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital in Durban where he was being treated for diabetes-related issues. It remains unclear who the king’s successor will be among his 27 living children from his six wives.
