Historic Mt. Auburn building demolished after roof collapse

The building was originally constructed in the early 1870s as a powerhouse for the cable cars transporting passengers from downtown to suburban Mt. Auburn, according to the Cincinnati Preservation Association.

CINCINNATI â Demolition has started on a building with almost 150 years of history in Mt. Auburn.
The Mt. Auburn Cable Car Building at the corner of Dorchester and Highland started to come down on Monday when accumulated snow caused a partial collapse of the roof, according to the Cincinnati Fire Department. Building contractors were on site during the collapse but no one was injured.

The Cincinnati Opera was forced to cancel their season last year due to the pandemic. So they decided to put together a free Winter Festival full of artist-driven performances that starts Friday.
Imagine you are a young singer, hoping for a career in opera and you ve worked hard enough, been good enough and had enough stamina to reach the finalist stage of a competition where you ll be performing before a theater jammed with opera lovers.
But now instead of facing a live audience at your big moment, you are instead greeted with facsimiles of people: 2D cardboard cutouts filling the seats as you sing two arias in the course of the evening before a panel of judges. The rewards are still the same recognition, prize money, possible accepted into a respected training program but the ambience, well it ll be a bit different.
