As another MVC agency closes due to COVID-19, Murphy weighs options to help drivers

The number of state Motor Vehicle Commission agencies closed due to the coronavirus crept up Thursday to eight after two agencies closed and another reopened, officials said.
And that’s putting drivers in a different kind of line as they try and reschedule canceled appointments at those agencies before their documents expire. Gov.Phil Murphy said he is aware of the issue when asked on Tuesday.
The Springfield agency was closed Wednesday afternoon, followed by the Rio Grande agency on Thursday after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus. Springfield is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, Jan.19 and Rio Grande on Friday, because an employee who initially tested positive, later tested negative, officials said.

MVC agency coronavirus closures spill into 2021

Another state Motor Vehicle Commission agency closed until after the New Year and the shut down of a second was extended on Monday after employees at both locations tested positive for the coronavirus.
The North Bergen Licensing Center closed after an employee who was last in the agency on Friday tested positive for COVID-19. The agency is scheduled to reopen on Jan. 2, MVC officials said.
The Wayne Licensing Center will remain closed until Dec. 31, due to an additional employee testing positive for COVID-19, That requires more time for staff to quarantine, officials said.
Coronavirus closes two more MVC agencies as the total shut down climbs to 16

What the state Motor Vehicle Commission gains in reopening an agency, COVID-19 takes away, which was the case on Tuesday after two agencies in Lodi and Flemington closed after employees there tested positive for the coronavirus.
The Flemington Licensing Center closed Tuesday after an employee who was last in the agency on Dec.17 tested positive for the coronavirus, said William Connolly, an MVC spokesman. That agency is scheduled to reopen Saturday, Jan. 2.
The Lodi Licensing Center also will reopen on Jan. 2 after an employee who was last in the agency on Friday tested positive, he said. Agencies close to allow for sanitizing, contact tracing and any necessary employee quarantines.
