FLORENCE, Ala. (WAFF) - The past year has been difficult on businesses, the arts, and tourist attractions. As positive covid-19 cases began to increase, the Shoals Community Theater made the decision to close last March. One year later, the center for the arts is looking to brighter days ahead.
Closing the Shoals Theater last March wasn’t an easy decision. It was necessary though for the health and safety of patrons. Following Governor Ivey’s amended safer-at-home order, the theater was allowed to reopen - but with social distancing guidelines. That meant limited tickets, shows and seating. General Manager Steve Price says the theater lost not only large crowds and popular acts - but revenue too.

CLEVELAND, Ohio Just over a month since the New York Dolls’ Sylvain Sylvain passed away at the age of 69, the guitarist’s friends and admirers are gathering for a virtual celebration at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14 what would have been his 70th birthday. Dolls bandmate David Johansen, Debbie Harry and Clem Burke from Blondie, the Patti Smith Group’s Lenny Kaye, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Chuck Prophet, Jesse Malin and more will perform and share stories. FLORENCE, Ala. (WAFF) - The Shoals Community Theater in Florence needs your help raising money to cover financial losses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The theatre is working to overcome more than a million-dollar loss since March.
“It would be between a quarter and a half million dollars,” said Shoals Community Theatre General Manager Steve Price.
That’s how much revenue the Shoals Community Theatre has lost since the start of the pandemic.
