Associate Professor Tim Tenbensel, School of Population Health, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Auckland, comments:
“This morning’s announcement is truly a historic event. The changes proposed go significantly beyond what had been recommended by the Health and Disability Review Report last year. The big news is the abolition of District Health Boards, and their replacement with a single national organization, provisionally known as Health New Zealand, which will have four regional divisions, and a district or locality branches at local levels.
“The creation of a Maori Health Authority with commissioning powers is the other major innovation. Again, the scope of the MHA goes beyond what was recommended by the Simpson Review, and aligns more closely with the ‘dissenting’ view supported by the majority of the Review panel.

PORTLAND, Ore. Away from Oregon’s big cities, getting COVID shots to people often involves travel and persistence. We need to go out and have people show up at different events, said Shellie Campbell, interim public health director for North Central Public Health. We go to the school, we go to the senior center, we go to the clinics, we go wherever the people will come to so they can get the vaccine.
120,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine coming to Oregon
Current supplies are safe and not connected to the East Coast manufacturing issues. But health leaders worry the issue will make some people more skeptical. Author: Pat Dooris Updated: 8:06 PM PDT April 1, 2021
PORTLAND, Ore. On the front lines of Oregon’s battle against the coronavirus, public health leaders worry that problems with Johnson & Johnson manufacturing on the East Coast could impact their efforts.
“Well that was certainly a bit of a disappointment as we’re counting on the J&J vaccine for many of our outlying clinics,” said Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer, Douglas County health officer and administrator.
