Adult and Teen Challenge center is a living dream

DEPORT — The dream of Ray and Pat Evers of the Texas Dream Center lives on today at Adult and Teen Challenge of Texas facilities at the East Texas Men’s Rehab Center in Deport and the East Texas Women’s Rehab Center in Clarksville. The couple began working with those with addictions more than 40 years ago by putting them in camper trailers and working with them one on one. They began the Dream Center in 2013, and transferred ownership of the nonprofit organization to the Adult and Teen Challenge organization in November 2020. A ribbon cutting by the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce is to take place at 4 p.m. Thursday with a reception from 4 to 8 p.m. at the men’s center, 126 Highway 271.

Madison School Board to consider ASBSD candidates

The Madison School Board will consider choosing a new board member for the Associated School Boards of South Dakota, a statewide organization, when it meets at 5:30 p.m. on Monday in the combined middle-high school library. Tom Farrell, president of the Madison School Board, is one of two candidates running for an ASBSD Southeast Region board seat. Carol Voss-Ward, a Vermillion School Board member, is the other candidate running for a four-year term on the board. Personnel changes are among the items scheduled early on the meeting agenda with the board members reviewing the resignations of Melody Gross as a high school paraprofessional, effective on March 12; Cassaundra Brunick as a middle school oral interpretation adviser, effective March 16; Rachel Jung as an English language learner and instructional tutor, effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year; and Melissa Blessington as a middle school paraprofessional, effective May 12.
