United Way approves $916,285 in allocations Board approves additional $100,000 in allocations SIDNEY President Scott Barr reports the Shelby County United Way recently completed the annual partner agency allocation process in March and April. Six allocation teams consisting of over 42 people including board members, company, and community volunteers conducted agency reviews. The teams were comprised of the following Impact Areas: Enriching the Lives of Seniors, Investing in Youth & Children, Promoting Health & Well Being, Caring for People in Crisis, Strengthening Families & Individuals, and Community-Wide Initiatives. Barr states, “The allocation process provides accountability and ensures the community’s dollars are impacting Shelby County’s greatest needs. We leverage the experience and skill set of our board of directors and community volunteers to evaluate and make recommendations to our partners. United Way campaign surpasses $1.2 million Board approves additional $100,000 in allocations SIDNEY Scott Barr, president and CEO of the Shelby County United Way, has shared campaign totals from the 2020 Annual Campaign have surpassed $1.2 million and is still growing. “We shared at our virtual finale in early November we were approaching $800,000 in pledges with multiple large manufacturing companies still outstanding. Since that time company totals have continued to be submitted for processing and we are now comfortable projecting a campaign that will exceed $1,200,000, with the potential to continue to rise. Although no goal was established, we are still accepting donations for the 2020 campaign to close the gap on last years totals of achieving over $1,300,000. Shelby County United Way awards 4 grants Barr SIDNEY The Shelby County United Way special projects committee reviews grants on a monthly basis that impact the community in the areas of Health, Education, and Financial Stability. The committee approved requested grants in January and February. Agape Distribution was awarded $3,500 in January to assist with security and lighting upgrades as they have been victim to multiple acts of vandalization, including damage to the mobile pantry. The First Presbyterian Church’s Munch Bunch was awarded $5,000 to assist with weekend backpack hunger. They deliver bags of food to the Sidney Elementary buildings and to Hardin-Houston School District.
