COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) â Due to the large amount of evidence and reports that are not available yet in connection with a case in which the defendant is facing 11 charges, Branch County District Court hearings for 42-year-old Daniel Gerard Silich of Sturgis have been delayed until June.
Among the charges Silich is facing is second degree murder in connection with a hit and run crash which led to the death of 13-year-old Landen Risner.
He was among three children who were struck April 5 while they were riding their bikes in the area of Ralston and Arney Roads near their Sherwood Township home.

COLDWATER, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – 42-year-old Daniel Gerard Silich of Sturgis was formally charged with 11 counts including a charge of second degree murder during an arraignment on Wednesday in Branch County District Court in connection with a hit and run crash which injured three children while they were riding their bikes near their Sherwood Township home.
One of the injured youngsters, 13-year-old Landen Risner, died from his injuries 13 days after the crash at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Six-year-old Roman Risner suffered a femur fracture and had plates and screws inserted during surgery. Their 13-year-old sister suffered minor injuries.

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien issued a statement Monday afternoon on the ongoing investigation into the April 5 hit and run crash in Sherwood Township which injured three youngsters.
One of the youngsters, 13-year-old Landen Risner, died from his injuries on Sunday morning at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Stempien said he has been in contact with the Michigan State Police since the day of the crash and has been given regular updates.
He says at this point in time, the investigation is ongoing and, “Once the investigation is completed and a formal request for charges is received by the Branch County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the case will be reviewed for possible criminal prosecution.”
