Lynchburg City Council will hold a budget retreat today. The meeting runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Aviary at Miller Park. The 7:30 p.m. City Council meeting is canceled due to a lack of agenda items.
The Botetourt County Board of Supervisors will meet today. Members will select a new chair and vice-chair. It will also recognize the school board for the completion of the new Colonial Elementary School. It opened yesterday, replacing the old school, which opened in 1939.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) A 32-year-old man from Mooresville was arrested Thursday in connection to the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old man in May, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.
Adam Starr is charged in a case filed in Marion Superior Court 29 with a count of murder and a count of carrying a handgun without a license in the shooting death of 43-year-old Pablo Rodruguez, according to information from IMPD and online court records.
IMPD officers arrived minutes after 12:15 a.m. May 17 to find Rodruguez with an apparent gunshot wound at a home in the 4400 block of East Michigan Street. That’s between Sherman Drive and Emerson Avenue on the city’s east side. Rodruguez died later at an area hospital.

MARSHALL, Texas (KLTV) - One person died in a house fire that occurred in Marshall early Monday morning.
According to a press release, the City of Marshall’s dispatch center got a call at 1:57 a.m. Monday about a house fire. When Marshall firefighters arrived at the home located in the 4300 block of Sherman Drive, they found it fully engulfed in flames. 4300 block Sherman Drive, Marshall (Source: Marshall Fire Department)
“Marshall Fire Department firefighters initially searched the home for survivors,” the press release stated. “However, there was one fatality in the home. The investigation is ongoing at this time.”

An Iowa City man was taken into custody after his alleged involvement in a large fight early Saturday morning.
According to police, an officer observed the incident in the 100 block of South Clinton Street just before 2am. When backup arrived, most of the participants had disbursed, but 19-year-old Trevion Gathright of Sherman Drive reportedly came out of an alley and was throwing punches at an unknown subject, who fled the scene.
Gathright was restrained by friends from following, and allegedly was staggering and slurring his words. He was placed under arrest, and reportedly was observed with bloodshot watery eyes. A post arrest PBT showed a blood-alcohol content of .155 percent. He also was found to have a quantity of marijuana on his person when he was searched.
