IC man with history of domestic abuse arrested after Monday incident

12/16/20 An Iowa City man has been taken into custody after violating parole and allegedly assaulting his intimate partner. Police say 21-year-old Anthony Alexander of Sherman Drive used his arms to choke the woman at an apartment on Wayne Avenue during the noon hour Monday. He allegedly grabbed her from behind while she was face down on a futon. The woman told police that she told Alexander she couldn’t breathe, but he reportedly choked her even harder, until she lost consciousness. The woman reports that when she came to, Alexander was still choking her, but she was able to break free. She also received a cut finger and a bloody lower lip.
