Four Macon-Bibb Commissioners want the county, courts, and the sheriff s office to work to reduce the amount of people in the Bibb County jail.  The commissioners are considered about court delays and overcrowding during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Last month, images circulated on social media of inmates lying on the floor, not social distancing in a quarantining pod.

Downtown Macon merchants and business owners heard an impromptu progress report Tuesday on Mayor Lester Miller’s first 30 days in office. Miller, who at the end of last year succeeded the longest-serving mayor in the city’s history, attended the monthly meeting of the Downtown Macon Community Association on Zoom. The local attorney, businessman and former school board president said he “hit the ground running” to help people experiencing homelessness after two people died of hypothermia on Christmas, days before he took office.

16-year-old Elijah Jones was pronounced dead on the scene after deputies found him shot inside a car Author: Ashlyn Webb (WMAZ) Updated: 4:52 PM EST December 22, 2020 MACON, Ga. A 16-year-old died and a 17-year-old is recovering after a shooting in south Macon Monday afternoon. According to the Bibb County Sheriff s Office, deputies found two teens shot in a black Kia Sorento in the parking lot of the Sandy Springs Apartments. Deputies found 17-year-old Tyrin Riggins shot at least once in the leg and 16-year-old Elijah Jones shot in the upper torso. Jones was later pronounced dead on the scene.  Lt. Sean Defoe confirmed Bibb County Sheriff s Office is investigating it as a homicide.
